Vector Components of Velocity
Students explore the relationship between the velocity of an object and its vector components using a Wireless Motion Sensor, a Smart Cart and a Smart Cart Motor, which drives the cart with constant velocity.
A track is placed in the corner of a room, and the Wireless Motion Sensor is mounted to the Smart Cart, so that it points in the x direction. As the Smart Cart Motor drives the cart, the Wireless Motion Sensor measures the components of the cart's velocity relative to the walls of the corner. Students can then repeat the experiment with the Wireless Motion Sensor aligned in the y direction.
