Measuring Nitrate Concentration

Nitrates are important fertilizer for plant growth. Nitrates are also highly soluble. High concentrations can cause problems in surface water if they spur rapid growth of aquatic plant life. The plants that die end up sinking down into the water and consuming any excess dissolved oxygen which is needed for animal life. Students will determine nitrate levels using EZ-Snap tests and Wireless Colorimeter.
