If you find that the droplets within the Millikan Oil Drop Experiment are not charging when exposed to the radioactive source, the oil that you are using may be too old.  Fresh oil (AP-8211) can help the experiment run better.  As the oil ages, it can show less ability for the droplets to take charge.
