Project: Design a Purification Process
Students must engineer a system to purify water that contains macroscopic and microscopic contaminants and evaluate the effectiveness of their design using a condenser, turbidity sensor, conductivity sensor, and qualitative observations.
Supports NGSS Performance Expectations HS-PS3-3: Design, build, and refine a device that works within given constraints to convert one form of energy into another form of energy -and- HS-ETS1-3: Evaluate a solution to a complex real-world problem based on prioritized criteria and trade-offs that account for a range of constraints, including cost, safety, reliability, and aesthetics, as well as possible social, cultural, and environmental impacts.

Featured Equipment
Cuvettes and Caps
Replacement Polystyrene Cuvettes and Caps for the PASCO Wireless Spectrometer.
Condenser
Designed to cool the vapors from a liquid sample that is being heated (distilled), and capture the condensation.
Wireless Colorimeter & Turbidity Sensor
This sensor can function as a turbidimeter or colorimeter and is capable of measuring absorbance and transmittance at six different wavelengths.
Wireless Conductivity Sensor
This waterproof sensor connects via Bluetooth® to measure both conductivity (ionic content in solution) and total dissolved solids.
100 NTU Calibration Standard
Replacement calibration standard for PASPORT Turbidity Sensor (PS-2122).
Support
Many lab activities can be conducted with our Wireless, PASPORT, or even ScienceWorkshop sensors and equipment. For assistance with substituting compatible instruments, contact PASCO Technical Support. We're here to help.
