Essential Elementary Science Teacher Lab Manual
The following list of elementary science activities get students measuring data and visualizing numbers using methods that nurture their foundational understandings of mathematical concepts. You may preview and download editable student handouts, SPARKvue files, Google Slides, materials lists, and the complete Teacher Lab Manual. Teacher resource files, including SPARKvue files and answer keys, can be accessed by signing in to or creating a PASCO account.

Activities
01) Temperature and Change
Students will use a temperature sensor, sugar cubes, and water to investigate how temperature can affect the rate in which a solid dissolves.
02) Evidence of Chemical Reactions
Students will use baking soda, vinegar, and a temperature sensor to investigate chemical reactions.
03) Thermal Insulators and Conductors
Students measure the temperature of water in a variety of cups to identify those that are best served as insulators or conductors.
04) Can Plants Survive without Light?
Students measure the ambient light around three plants for a series of days to discover the best light conditions in which they can grow.
05) How a Greenhouse Works: Light
Students change the angle at which light strikes a model greenhouse and measure its intensity.
06) How a Greenhouse Works: Heat
Using a temperature sensor, students investigate how heat inside a model greenhouse if affected by changes to the covering materials on the box.
07) MatchGraph!
Students learn how to describe motion by competing against the clock to complete various exercises using a motion sensor and the free MatchGraph app.
08) Determining Sound Levels
Students learn that sound is produced by vibrating objects, that sound travels from a source through air, solids, and liquids, and its loudness on the size of its vibrations.
09) Monitoring Weather
Students investigate weather throughout the course of the day and look for patterns and relationships using their collected data.
10) Weather and Climate: Microclimates
Students observe that air temperature and humidity are affected by the type of structures and organic material around them.
