Analysis of Food Dyes in Sports Drinks

Students use a colorimeter to quantify the amount of food dye in a sports drink.

This lab is an introduction to spectroscopy. The correlation between absorbance and transmittance of color in food dyes is emphasized as is the use of the Beer-Lambert Law for quantitation of food dye content in sports drinks.
