A Chemistry Mystery: Name That Unknown!
Students use several methods to characterize compounds according to the nature of intramolecular bonding.
Compounds are characterized as ionic, polar covalent or nonpolar covalent based on several physical and chemical properties tested by students. This lab uses a large variety of wireless sensors to conduct these studies. Students are expected to find patterns in compound characteristics and use that knowledge to identify a series of unknown substances provided by the instructor.
