What Does Acid Rain Do To Coral Reefs?
Students use a pressure sensor to study what factors affect the reaction of calcium carbonate with acid.
Several factors affect the rate of any reaction. In this lab, the concentration of acid and particle size are investigated using marble chips, a metamorphic formation of calcium carbonate, as a model material. Results are correlated to the impact of ocean acidification on coral reefs.
